Choosing tape for foam lamination: what to specify

SLITORA editorial team · Published

The short answer

The foam name is only the starting point. Define the other surface, part shape, converting process and service requirements before comparing adhesive samples.

Distinguish two different purchases

Laminating adhesive onto your foam is different from buying double-sided tape with its own foam carrier. Say whether you supply the foam and need a tape backing, or want a complete construction, so quotations cover the same item.

Describe both materials

Provide the foam type, thickness, surface condition and opposite material. Include a dimensioned sketch for curved or uneven parts. Product specifications distinguish backing and adhesive construction; colour alone cannot establish interchangeability.

Include converting in the trial

Describe hand or machine lamination, rolls or die-cut parts, and when the liner is removed. Trial the actual converting and storage process, recording edge lift, separation, adhesive ooze and liner release before agreeing production sizes.
